EN 16571 Information technology - RFID privacy impact assessment process was published in June 2014 by the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). A European Standard, when developed and approved is then adopted as a national standard by 33 European countries. As such it results in identical implementation across Europe.
EN 16571 was prepared as part of the EU RFID Mandate M/436. It is part of a standardisation effort supported by the European Commission for greater adoption of RFID technology, but in a manner that makes adopters aware of privacy issues.
It extends the Privacy and Data Protection Impact Assessment Framework for RFID Applications, by defining procedures to enable a common European method for undertaking an RFID PIA. It provides a standardized set of procedures for developing PIA templates, including tools compatible with the RFID PIA methodology. In addition, it identifies the conditions that require an existing PIA to be revised, amended, or replaced by a new assessment process.
Convergent Software has partnered with CNRFID, the French National RFID Center, to provide compliant EN 16571 software. This is a true co-development merging the skills of CNRFID with its in-depth understanding of RFID technology, with the RFID software development skills of Convergent Software Ltd.
